Greers Road Medical Centre

Basic Information

Approximately 7km north-west of central Christchurch, Greers Road Medical Centre looks after approximately 4800 enrolled patients in the three B suburbs: Bishopdale, Bryndwr and Burnside. Starting over 30 years ago, the founding partners Drs Catherine Spencer-Taylor, David Mann and Jonathan Davies worked out of a converted house for many years before opening a new facility in 2010. Greers Road is strong on teaching and Dr Catherine Spencer-Taylor has supported many GP Registrars over the last decade.

Recently the team completed a continuing quality improvement project looking to achieve 80% PSA testing of Maori and Pacifica men in the appropriate age range of 45 to 51 years and to achieve 80% PSA testing of all male patients by age 51 years. This is a work in progress as some men continue to go unscreened.

The team enjoy working with a vibrant Bhutanese refugee community which has grown significantly over the years.

For test results ordered by your Specialist or Midwife, please contact them directly. PLEASE NOTE: You can have normal results in the presence of significant illness. It is important that you re-attend if your symptoms are persisting or any new symptoms develop. If you wish to know more about what your laboratory tests mean, try www.labtestsonline.org it is important however, that all laboratory tests are interpreted in full clinical context. Your GP is the best person to do this.
Regular full-body skin checks using Dermoscopy is the best way to detect melanoma at the non-invasive early stages, when detected early at the thin non-invasive stage (in-situ) is almost always curable. Appointments are 30 minutes with Dr Catherine Spencer-Taylor and cost $195, please phone to book. If liquid nitrogen is required there is an additional charge. Most cancerous lesions are removed with a single surgical procedure. This is done in a precise and sterile way whilst ensuring patient comfort. All our procedures are done under local anaesthetic and usually, the wound is sutured closed.
All patients have a right to a support person / chaperone with them for any appointment. The support person / chaperone can be a family member, friend or a member of staff. If you want a member of staff to accompany you, please let the receptionist know when you arrive for your appointment. You are entitled to support under Right 8 of the Code of Health & Disability Services Consumers’ Rights 1996
