What Te Tahi Youth do
We support 10 to 24 year olds in the Christchurch region by providing a ‘one-stop shop’ for medical, sexual and mental health services, as well as mentoring and employment support to help you find your way through life. And it’s all free.
Our medical team can help you to be healthy inside and out, from top to toe. You can see them for anything, whether it’s a new issue or something that’s been nagging you for a while. Our youth development team support you as you learn how to do the important life stuff and make the most of every opportunity. Our employment team can support you into work and training.
Our team is full of people who are trained and experienced in working with young people – and they want to help.
Here you can find doctors, nurses, counsellors, social workers and youth workers. They are all friendly, accepting and they really care.

We’ve been here for young people since 1995.
We’re still here for you now.
Te Tahi Youth started as the 198 Youth Health Centre. It was established by Dr Sue Bagshaw (now Dame Sue Bagshaw thanks to her awesome work supporting young people!). She had a vision to provide free, accessible health services to Ōtautahi rangatahi. Dame Sue had seen youth one-stop-shop services overseas and knew it was what we needed – a place where young people could access all the support they need, in a place where they belonged.
So 198 Youth Health Centre opened. And then, after losing our home in the Christchurch earthquakes, we reopened again as 298 Youth Health.
Today, we are Te Tahi Youth. A new name that better reflects the evolving nature of what we do and who we serve. A name that encompasses our values of compassion, acceptance, resilience and encouragement.
